CANADA NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

The Canada men’s national soccer team (French: Équipe du Canada de soccer masculin) represents Canada in men’s international soccer. It is governed by the Canadian Soccer Association (French: Association canadienne de soccer), which was founded in 1912 and has been affiliated with FIFA since that year. Canada is also a founding member of CONCACAF, joining in 1961, and is affiliated with the North American Football Union (NAFU) within the regional zone.

Canada has qualified for the FIFA World Cup three times. Their debut came in 1986 after winning the 1985 CONCACAF Championship. They qualified again in 2022, finishing first in the final CONCACAF qualifying round, and are set to participate in the 2026 World Cup as one of the host nations alongside the United States and Mexico. Canada is one of only twelve CONCACAF teams to have ever qualified for the World Cup.

Regionally, Canada has also achieved significant success. The team is one of only three CONCACAF nations—alongside Mexico and the United States—to have won the Gold Cup, capturing the 2000 edition and earning a place in the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup. The 2026 World Cup will mark the first time Canada hosts the tournament, highlighting the country’s growing prominence on the international soccer stage.
