PARAGUAY NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM
The Paraguay national football team (Spanish: Selección de fútbol de Paraguay) represents Paraguay in men’s international football and is governed by the Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol (APF). Paraguay is a member of CONMEBOL and FIFA, competing in both South American and global tournaments.
Nicknamed La Albirroja (“The White and Red”), in reference to the team’s traditional striped kit, Paraguay plays its home matches primarily at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco in Asunción. The team is known for its strong defensive organization, physical play, and disciplined tactical approach.
Paraguay has qualified for the FIFA World Cup eight times, with its best performance reaching the Round of 16 on multiple occasions (1986, 1998, 2002, 2010). In the Copa América, Paraguay has won the tournament twice, in 1953 and 1979, and has frequently been a strong contender in South American football.
The national team continues to develop young talent through domestic leagues and youth programs, producing players who succeed both locally and internationally. Paraguayan football is characterized by resilience, teamwork, and a passionate fan base, maintaining a respected presence in both CONMEBOL and global competitions.
