Aymeric Jean Louis Gérard Alphonse Laporte is a professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Athletic Bilbao in La Liga and represents the Spain national team. Born in Agen, France, he developed a reputation as a composed, intelligent, and technically gifted defender, notable for his ball-playing ability, aerial strength, and positional awareness.

Laporte joined Athletic Bilbao’s youth system as a teenager, becoming one of the few non-Basque-born players to qualify under the club’s recruitment philosophy due to his Basque ancestry. He progressed rapidly through the academy and Bilbao Athletic before making his senior debut in 2012. Over the following years, he established himself as one of La Liga’s most reliable defenders, contributing to Athletic’s consistent European qualifications and earning widespread recognition for his maturity at a young age.

In 2018, he signed for Manchester City, where he became a key figure in Pep Guardiola’s defence. During his time in the Premier League, Laporte won multiple domestic titles and was praised for his composure in possession and ability to initiate attacks from the back line. After a successful stint in England and a season in Saudi Arabia, he returned to Athletic Bilbao, resuming his role as a central pillar of the club’s defensive structure.

Though born in France and having represented the country at youth level, Laporte switched international allegiance to Spain in 2021. Since then, he has become an important part of the Spanish national team, featuring in major international tournaments and contributing his experience and tactical intelligence to the squad.
