CABO VERDE NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

The Cabo Verde national football team, commonly known as the Tubarões Azuis (“Blue Sharks”), represents the island nation of Cabo Verde in men’s international football. It is governed by the Cape Verdean Football Federation (Federação Cabo-Verdiana de Futebol, FCF), the official body responsible for organizing and developing football throughout the country. Cabo Verde has been a member of FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) since 1986.

Despite being one of Africa’s smaller nations in both size and population, Cabo Verde has earned increasing recognition on the international stage, thanks to a growing number of players competing professionally around the world. The team achieved a major milestone by qualifying for its first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2013, where it impressively reached the quarter-finals. They have since become regular contenders in AFCON qualifying campaigns and are known for their disciplined play, strong team spirit, and talent-rich diaspora.

Cabo Verde traditionally wears blue as its primary colour, reflecting both the national flag and the maritime identity of the archipelago. Home matches are typically hosted in Praia at Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde.
