IRAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

The Iran national football team (Persian: تیم ملی فوتبال ایران) represents Iran in men’s international football and is governed by the Football Federation  of Iran (FFIR). Iran is a member of AFC (Asian Football Confederation) and FIFA, competing in both continental and global tournaments.

Nicknamed Team Melli (“The National Team”), Iran is one of the most successful footballing nations in Asia. The team plays its home matches at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran, which is also a central hub for domestic football in the country.

Iran has qualified for the FIFA World Cup six times: 1978, 1998, 2006, 2014, 2018, and 2022, consistently representing Asia on the global stage. In continental competitions, Iran has won the AFC Asian Cup three times (1968, 1972, 1976) and remains a dominant force in Asian football.

Known for its disciplined defensive structure, tactical organization, and passionate supporters, Iran continues to develop talent both domestically and abroad. The team also emphasizes youth development through its under-age national teams, contributing players to professional leagues worldwide.
