Germany National Team

The Germany national football team (German: Deutsche Fußballnationalmannschaft) represents Germany in men’s international football. The team played its first official match in 1908 and is governed by the German Football Association (Deutscher Fußball-Bund, DFB), which was founded in 1900.

Between 1949 and 1990, due to Germany’s post-World War II division, FIFA recognised separate national teams:

  • The DFB team representing the Federal Republic of Germany (commonly referred to as West Germany in English during this period)

  • The Saarland team representing the Saar Protectorate (1950–1956)

  • The East Germany team representing the German Democratic Republic (1952–1990)

Following reunification in 1990, the East Germany and Saarland teams were absorbed into the DFB, along with their records, and the official FIFA designation “Germany FR (FRG)” was shortened to Germany (GER).

Germany is historically one of the most successful footballing nations, renowned for its tactical discipline, efficiency, and strong footballing culture. The team continues to be a dominant force in both European and global competitions, producing world-class talent and maintaining a passionate fan base.
