Born in Madrid into a family with a rich footballing heritage, Llorente joined Real Madrid’s academy, La Fábrica, at a young age. He progressed steadily through the youth ranks thanks to his exceptional athleticism, ball-winning ability, and intelligence in possession. Llorente made his senior debut for Real Madrid in 2015 and went on to make 39 competitive appearances for the club over three seasons. To accelerate his development, he spent the 2016–17 season on loan at Alavés, where he became one of the standout midfielders in La Liga, playing a crucial role in the team’s impressive campaign and Copa del Rey final run.

In 2019, Llorente transferred to Atlético Madrid, a move that marked a turning point in his career. Under Diego Simeone, he evolved from a defensive midfielder into a more attack-minded, multi-role player capable of operating as a central midfielder, right-sided wing-back, or even a second striker when needed. His breakout came during the 2019–20 Champions League, notably with his decisive goals against Liverpool at Anfield, which elevated his profile internationally.

Llorente has since become an essential figure for Atlético, known for his relentless work rate, late runs into the box, and tactical versatility. His club performances earned him a place in the Spain national team, where he has contributed across multiple positions thanks to his adaptability and high physical output.

With his blend of technique, endurance, and footballing intelligence, Marcos Llorente has established himself as one of the most complete and multifunctional players in Spanish football.
