Alejandro “Álex” Grimaldo García is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a left wing-back for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and represents the Spain national team. Renowned for his creativity, set-piece quality, and tireless attacking presence, he is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most dynamic and technically gifted full-backs.
Born in Valencia, Grimaldo joined FC Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy at a young age and quickly rose through the youth ranks, becoming one of the most highly rated prospects in his position. He made his senior debut with Barcelona B as a teenager, showcasing his exceptional pace, dribbling, and crossing ability. Although he never broke into Barça’s first team, his potential attracted strong interest from abroad.
In 2016, Grimaldo signed with Benfica, where he flourished into one of the Portuguese league’s standout performers. During his time in Lisbon, he became known for his attacking flair, precise free-kicks, and ability to influence games from the left flank, contributing to multiple domestic titles and European campaigns.
Grimaldo moved to Bayer Leverkusen in 2023, quickly becoming an essential part of Xabi Alonso’s system. His impact was immediate—combining defensive work rate with elite chance creation—and he played a major role in Leverkusen’s rise as one of Germany’s top sides.
On the international stage, Grimaldo represented Spain at various youth levels before earning his senior debut. His performances at club level ultimately led to regular call-ups, where his versatility and attacking threat have added valuable dimensions to the national team.
Through consistent excellence and technical brilliance, Álex Grimaldo has established himself as one of the most complete left wing-backs in modern football.
