ECUADOR NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

The Ecuador national football team (Spanish: Selección de fútbol de Ecuador) represents Ecuador in men’s international football and is governed by the Federación Ecuatoriana de Fútbol (FEF), the country’s official football authority. Ecuador is a member of CONMEBOL, competing regularly in South American and international tournaments under FIFA.

Nicknamed La Tri (“The Tricolor”) in reference to the national flag, Ecuador plays its home matches at several stadiums, most notably the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in Quito. The team is known for its strong physical play, speed, and the advantage of high-altitude home venues, which have historically posed challenges for visiting teams.

Ecuador has qualified for the FIFA World Cup four times: 2002, 2006, 2014, and 2022, achieving its best performance in 2006 by reaching the Round of 16. The team has also been a consistent contender in the Copa América, with its best finish as runners-up in 1959. Ecuador continues to develop both youth and senior talent, contributing players to leagues around the world and maintaining a passionate fan base both domestically and internationally.
